Lecturer
Pool – Korean Language – East Asian Languages & Cultures Description

The
Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of
California, Berkeley seeks applications for a pool of qualified temporary
lecturers to teach elementary, intermediate, or advanced courses in Korean
language, or business Korean, or Korean language in popular media courses
should a need arise during Summer, Fall 2019 and Spring 2020.

In
addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties may include holding
office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials
(e.g. syllabus), writing exams, attending appropriate meetings, and interacting
with students outside of class time via email and/or bCourses.

Screening
of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions
may vary each teaching term, depending upon the needs of the Department, and in
some semesters may be zero. Positions may range from 40%, 80% to 120%,
respectively equivalent to one, two or three courses per semester.

Basic
Qualifications (required at the time of application):

degree or enrolled in an advanced degree program Additional qualifications

  At least two
years of university-level teaching experience Preferred
Qualifications:

 
MA or equivalent international degree in teaching Korean
as a Foreign Language, Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition or related
field. Experience with computer-assisted language learning and language
instructional
software.

  Native or
near-native fluency in Korean; English fluency. Eligible to work in the United
States.

Salary

Salary is commensurate with education and years of
college-level teaching experience. The starting minimum full-time equivalent
salary is $54,738 in accordance with the current Unit 18 lecturer salary scale
and its provisions.
