The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
invites applications for a tenure-track position in Modern Korean Culture and Society at the rank of
assistant professor. We welcome applicants in any discipline of the humanities, and qualitative social
sciences, including candidates who integrate their research and teaching of Korean Studies with
multidisciplinary and interregional expertise. The start date is August 16, 2020. Salary is commensurate
with experience. We seek a promising scholar and teacher who will actively contribute to the intellectual
mission of our department through teaching, research, and building our Korean studies program.

Requirements: A PhD in Korean studies or related field, promising research agenda, and a strong
commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching are required. Candidates who can teach Modern
and Contemporary Korean literature, film, media and/or cultural studies are preferred. Candidates with
superior qualifications who will complete all the Ph.D. requirements within the first appointment year may
be appointed at the rank of Instructor. After the Ph.D. requirement is met, the appointment will be
changed to Assistant Professor.
