Call for Special Issue Proposals: The Korean Language in America

The Korean Language in America invites proposals for special issues dedicated to advancing the understanding and teaching of the Korean language. The special issues aim to explore innovative research, methodologies, and pedagogical practices that contribute to the field of Korean language education.

We welcome proposals on any relevant topics from guest editors who wish to curate a collection of high-quality, peer-reviewed articles on a specific theme within the broader context of Korean language education. Special issues provide an opportunity to address emerging trends, present new research, and share best practices with an international audience. Some suggested topics for the special issues include:

1. Assessment and Feedback in Korean Language Learning:Discussing innovative assessment practices and feedback mechanisms tailored to the needs of English-speaking learners of Korean, with a focus on fostering learner autonomy and continuous improvement.

1. The Role of Technology in Korean Language Instruction: Exploring the impact of digital tools, online platforms, and mobile applications on the teaching and learning of Korean, including the potential for personalized learning experiences and increased accessibility.

1. Cultural Competence in Korean Language Education:Investigating the role of cultural understanding in language acquisition, and how integrating cultural elements into language instruction can enhance learners' overall proficiency and engagement.

1. Korean Language Acquisition in Multilingual Contexts: Examining how English-speaking learners acquire Korean in multilingual environments, including the interplay of Korean with other languages, and the implications for teaching strategies and curriculum design.

1. Innovative Approaches to Teaching Korean Pronunciation: Exploring new methods, tools, and technologies for effectively teaching Korean pronunciation to English-speaking learners, addressing common challenges, and improving learner outcomes.

 Submission Guidelines:

Proposals for special issues should include the following:

• A brief description of the proposed theme (approximately 150 words).
• A list of potential contributors or a plan for soliciting contributions.
• A proposed timeline for the submission, review, and publication process.
• A short biography of the guest editor(s).

We are open to receiving proposals on an ongoing basis, with no set deadline. Once selected, the guest editors are required to send out a call for submissions for the special issue via the AATK email list. Please submit your proposal to the Editor-in-chief Minju Kim (mkim@cmc.edu).
