2020 Executive Board Member Election

AATK 회원 여러분께,

안녕하십니까? 이번 달 Columbia University의 주관으로 개최되는 2020년 AATK 연례 정기학회에 앞서 열리게 될 신임 이사 선거 관련 공고입니다.

2013년 Michigan State University에서 열렸던 정기학회 총회에서 새로 개정된 정관에 의해 처음으로 3명의 이사가 직접 선거로 선출된 이후, 매년 정기학회 총회에서 새로이 2-3명의 이사가 선출되고 있습니다. 올해 2020년 여름까지 김미정 (Washington U in St. Louis), 주희 (UCLA), 윤상석 (U of Iowa), 총 3명의 이사 선생님들이 3년 임기를 마치시게 됩니다. 올해에도 회원 여러분들의 직접 선거로 2020년 여름부터 3년 임기가 시작되는 3명의 이사 선출이 있을 예정입니다.

후보자 추천은 자천과 타천 모두 가능하며 기본 후보 자격은 다음과 같습니다:
(1) 현 AATK 회원; (2) 최소 5년 이상 정규 한국어 교육직 종사자; (3) 3회 이상 AATK 연례 정기학회 참여자 (K-12 대표 후보인 경우 제외).

올해부터 이사 선거는 온라인으로 진행되며 일정은 다음과 같습니다.

- 웹사이트 오픈: 6/1, 9 am (EST)
- 온라인 이사 투표 - 후보 추천: 6/1, 9 am - 6/13, 11:59 pm (EST)
- 온라인 이사 투표 - 실제 투표: 6/15, 12:01 am - 6/21, 11:59 pm (EST)

6월 1일부터 온라인을 통한 이사 후보 추천을 받게 됩니다. 자천, 타천에 상관없이 다음 세 가지 자료를 제출해 주시기 바랍니다:
(1) 후보자 이력서;
(2) 현재까지의 AATK 학회 참여 경력과 그 동안의 AATK 관련 활동 사항
(3) 이사로서의 활동 계획서 - (타천인 경우도 추천자가 후보자에게 이 계획서를 받아 제출)

현 이사진이 제출된 서류를 검토하여 필요한 이사 수의 최대 두 배까지 (6명) 최종 후보자 명단을 확정하고, 이 후보자 명단은 6월 15일에 공고할 예정이며, 공고 후 2020년 6월 15일부터 일주일간 회원들의 온라인 비밀 투표를 통해 3명의 신임 이사를 선출하게 됩니다.

Dear AATK members,

For the period of 2020-2023, a total of three new board members are to be elected to replace three outgoing Board Members, Mijeong Kim (Washington U in St. Louis), Hee Ju (UCLA), and Sang-Seok Yoon (U of Iowa). In June 2020, a total of three new board members are to be elected.


Responsibilities
The Executive Board Members serve without compensation for a term of three years.

Responsibilities include:
(1) representing the AATK membership
(2) advising activities, affairs, and the management of assets of the Association
(3) participating in activities and projects, such as:
- attending two annual board meetings in June (in conjunction with the AATK Annual Meeting) & November (in conjunction with the ACTFL Convention)
- reviewing conference abstracts and workshop proposals
- selecting prize awardees
(4) maintaining liaison with other professional organization and participating in recruiting and fund-raising.

Eligibility
In order to be considered for election to the Board, candidates must:
(1) be currently an AATK member; (2) have experience of teaching Korean or related subjects for five years full time; and (3) have attended the AATK annual workshop and conference at least three times (not necessarily consecutive years).

Starting this year, nomination and election processes will be fully conducted online.

Election Portal: Opens on June 1st (9am, EST)
Online Nomination: From June 1st (9am, EST) through June 13th (11:59pm, EST)
Online Board Members Election: From June 15th (12:01am, EST) through June 21st (11:59pm, EST)

Nomination
The nomination process is composed of the following two steps:

1. Any regular member can nominate a maximum of two candidates (including themselves). Members can directly submit self or other nominations using the AATK website.

For all nominations (other- and self-), a nominee should submit using the AATK election portal:
(1) his/her updated CV;
(2) a personal statement including the history of their AATK participation, their activities and services relating to the AATK in the past; and
(3) their prospective contributions to the AATK.

2. The Executive Board reviews nominations and decides on a shortlist of candidates to be put on the ballot. The shortlist can have twice as many candidates as the number of vacant positions on the Board, and therefore as many as 6 candidates for the 2020 election.


Selection Criteria
- demonstrate commitment to the AATK missions
- articulate visions for the AATK
- balanced representation of the membership


Election
AATK members will cast votes on the candidates by secret ballot online using the new AATK election portal. Those candidates who get the highest numbers of votes will be elected as board members. The elected board members must be approved by the general membership via email.
