Conference & Workshop Theme:

INNOVATION AND ACCOUNTABILITY IN

KOREAN LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT AND PROGRAM EVALUATION

 

Assessment and program evaluation are critical components for Korean-as-a-foreign language (KFL) curriculum. They provide baseline data and practical tools for KFL teachers, administrators, and communities to plan, understand, implement, enhance, and assess the quality and efficiency of their KFL instruction. They also offer the instructors basic insights into the background, capabilities, and potentials of KFL learners.

 

The 23rd Annual Conference and Professional Development Workshop of AATK focuses on the critical role that language assessment and program evaluation plays in KFL educational settings. We encourage submission of workshop proposals and conference abstracts that address various aspects of assessment and program evaluation. The topics may include, but not limited to:

• KFL program evaluation at work: Uses, frameworks, methods, and/or examples
• KFL learning-oriented assessment: Design and evaluation for use in language classrooms 
• KFL student learning outcomes assessment: Accreditation, accountability, and improvement 
• Assessment consequences: Investigating the impact of assessments on language learners, teachers, schools, communities, and societies 
• Validity evaluation: Determining and improving the quality of assessments in use
• Social dimensions of language assessment
• Assessment innovations for testing new constructs and meeting new demands

We also welcome the proposals and abstracts that discuss other aspects of learning and teaching of the Korean language other than this year’s theme. We particularly would like to see more K-12 educators submit their abstracts and then plan to reserve at least one workshop session for K-12 participants. There will also be special awards to graduate students who present excellent conference papers.

 

평가는 외국어로서의 한국어 (KFL) 및 프로그램의 핵심 구성 요소입니다. 올바른 평가에 대한 이해는 교사로 하여금  KFL 교육의 질과 효율성을 충분히 이해, 계획, 구현, 향상시킬 수 있도록 도와주며 또한 학습자의 배경, 능력 및 잠재력에 대한 이해를 돕는 실용적인 데이타를 제공합니다.

 

2018년 제 23차 AATK 연례 학회는 KFL 교수 학습 과정 그리고 환경에서 나타나는 학습자 언어 능력의 수준 변화를 알기 위한 한국어 능력 평가 및 실제 KFL 프로그램의 평가에 대한 이론과 실제적인 측면에서 함께 고민해 보는 기회를 마련하고자 <innovation and accountability in Korean language assessment and program evaluation>를 주제로 선정하였습니다.

 

회원 여러분들께서 적극적으로 참여하셔서 외국어로서의 한국어 능력 또한 커리큐럼/프로그램 평가의 새로운 방향에 대해의미 있는 논의로 소통의 장을 만들어 주시길 부탁드립니다.   

 

보다 구체적으로 같이 토론해 보고 검토해 볼 수 있는 측면들을 몇 가지만 예로 들면 다음과 같습니다: 외국어로서의 한국어 평가 기준,  언어 기능별 평가,  학습 목적과 평가,  평가 문항 및 도구 개발, 멀티미디어를 활용한 평가, 다양한 유형의 학습자들을 대상으로 하는 교과 과정에 대한 평가,  학술 및 전문 직업 목적 고급 학습자들을 위한 교과 과정 개발에 대한 평가, 그리고 한국어 교육자 양성 과정에 대한 평가.

 

선정된 학회 주제뿐만 아니라 한국어 교육과 학습 전반에 걸친 다른 주제들과 관련된 발표 신청을 통해 적극적으로 학회에참여해 주시길 바랍니다. 특히 초중고교 선생님들의 적극적인 참여를 위해 최소한 1개의 워크샵 발표 일정을 준비해 놓았습니다. 또한 우수한 발표를 한 대학원생들을 위한 특별상도 마련되어 있습니다. 회원 여러분과 한국어 관련 종사자 여러분들의 적극적인 참여를 기대합니다.

      

 

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

 

1. Presentation Categories

 

(1) Workshop panel (90 minutes): June 21-22

Workshop panels address practical concerns and share immediately applicable suggestions on issues ranging from development of program, materials and resources to instructional activities and techniques to methods of assessment.

 

(2) Teaching materials exchange (20-minute presentation followed by individual Q & A and discussion): June 21

 

This category has been designed for audience choice and involvement. After a series of three or four short presentations, instead of having a brief Q&A after each presentation, 20 to 30 minutes are set aside to allow for audience members to have sufficient time to learn more about presentations of their choice. The presenters address the entire audience for 20minutes each, and then move to designated areas to interact with interested subgroups. Each presenter is advised to bring his or her own laptop and other necessary materials for individual interaction with audience.

 

(3) Conference paper (20-minute presentation + 10-minute Q & A): June 22-23

This section of the meeting entails the presentation of research on topics pertaining to teaching and learning of Korean. Also, we expect explicit statement of the relevance of presented research to Korean program development and pedagogic practices. Mere description of instructional materials or practices without analysis of data, which would better fit the above category of teaching materials exchange, will not be considered for this category.

 

2. Requirements for Proposal or Abstract Submission

§  One must be a member of the AATK to submit a proposal/abstract.

§  All presenters must pre-register by May 15^th, 2018 and be a member of the AATK. Otherwise, presenter names will NOT appear in the Printed Program.

§  All session chairs must register for the workshop and conference and be a member of the AATK.

(1) Workshop panel (90 minutes):

The proposal should include a description of the topic and materials, objectives, and step-by-step plan for INTERACTIVE INVOLVEMENT OF PARTICIPANTS.

 

(2) Teaching materials exchange (20 minutes):

Original and well-tested teaching materials or activities will be selected. The proposal should include a succinct description of target learners, objectives of instruction, the material or procedure, and its effects.

 

(3) Conference paper (20 minutes):

The abstract should include clearly stated research motives and objectives in the context of existing research, description of data and analysis, and discussion of implications for teaching and future research.

 

3. Length: Maximum 500 words (English or Korean) + References or data limited to 250 words if applicable.

 

4. Limit of Submission: No more than 1 individual and 1 joint proposal/abstract, or 2 joint abstracts/proposals per person.

중요사항

모든 발표자는 AATK 회원이어야 하며 5월 15일까지 연례학회 선등록 필수. 회원가입과 선등록이 마감 날짜까지 이루어지지 않을 경우 학회 프로그램에서 발표자 이름 제외.  세션 담당자들도 AATK 회원이어야 하며 연례학회 등록 필수.

 

학회 발표 유형은 다음 세 가지입니다:

·      워크샵 (90분): 프로그램, 수업 자료, 학습 활동, 평가 방법 개발 등과 관련된 보다 실질적인 내용을 중심으로 하는 워크샵. 적극적인 청중의 참여 유도 필수. 

·      교수자료 교환 (20분): 15분 교재 개발 발표에 이어 30-40분 정도의 청중이 개인 발표자에게 개별적으로 질문하고 더 심도 있는 토론을하는 break-out 세션.  

·      연구 페이퍼 (20분): 한국어 학습과 교육 관련 학술적 연구 발표. 연구 동기, 데이타 수집, 연구 분석 및 결과에 대한 토론 포함 필수.

 

Ø  길이: 영어 또는 한국어로 최대 500자 + 참고문헌 250자

Ø  제출 갯수 제한: 한 사람 당 2개까지만 제출 가능. 단독 발표 1개와 공동 발표 1개, 또는 2개의 공동 발표 가능.
