MLA-ADFL Memo to the American Association of Teachers of Korean:

Each summer the Association of Departments of Foreign Languages (ADFL), sponsors seminars for language department administrators - chairs and program directors from colleges and universities around the United States. The seminars provide an opportunity for program leaders to work within a national network to learn about how to be effective in their roles and how to advocate for language education and programs. The seminar this coming summer will offer discussions of (among other issues) campus globalization and its import for language department leaders, teaching intercultural competence, language teaching for economic and global empowerment, difficult conversations with students and faculty, and issues in translation and interpretation.

A special focus at the seminar this year will be on small programs, those programs housed in departments (or sometimes on their own) which are staffed by a very few individuals, often just one or two faculty members, including the program head. The seminar will seek both to educate chairs of larger programs or departments about the small programs in their midst, and to support leaders of small programs in their work.

Details about the ADFL summer seminar are here and details about the Small Programs Workshop are attached as a flyer below.
