MA programs in East Asian Languages and Linguistics [SUNY Buffalo]

M.A. program in East Asian Languages and Linguistics combines training in the most
relevant courses in Linguistics and Language Acquisition/Pedagogy in Chinese,
Japanese or Korean to train students for the teaching of one of these languages at
college-level. East Asian cultures play an increasingly significant role in the cultural life
of North America.

Following this trend, the demand for instructors of these
languages at colleges and universities is continually increasing. With this M.A.,
students may also find professional careers in government, business, NGO, and
translation services in all fields, such as legal/social/ immigration services, academic
and research, art, culture, technology and entertainment.

Students will take 30 credit hours coursework in Linguistics and Language Acquisition
and Pedagogy particularly targeted for the East Asian languages. The students will
have teaching experience at our Chinese, Japanese and Korean language programs,
an opportunity to train undergraduate interns, and to create job application
Application Information
Applications will be reviewed starting on January 15, and will continue throughout
the spring semester.

April 1st is the application deadline for U.S. citizens, and
February 15th is the application deadline for international students. To apply, copies
of transcripts, three letters of recommendation, GRE score, TOEFL score (for
international students), a statement of purpose, curriculum vitae, and application fee
of $75.00 are required. Students who are not native speakers of the specialization
language are required to complete or test out of Fourth Year-Second Semester
course in the language.
