Online Certificate in Heritage Language Teaching: Piloting Module 1
University of Washington
The UCLA National Heritage Language Resource Center (NHLRC) is working with STARTALK to develop online courses on heritage language instruction. The online courses will cover some of the concepts we discussed in the one week workshop you attended and some will go beyond that one week experience. Our hope is to have an easy, online forum to help teachers become familiar with the concepts and pedagogical approaches related to heritage languages.
We are seeking 30 teachers to pilot the first teaching module and seek your help as a professional and former workshop participant. Module 1 consists of six short lessons. We need you to:
· View the six lessons, each comprising 9-11 videos (The running time for each video is less than 4 minutes.)
· Answer a brief survey
The entire evaluation process should take between one and two hours (estimated maximum: 1 hour of video viewing, 30 minutes reviewing quizzes and assignments, and 10 minutes of filling in the survey). We would appreciate it if you could complete the survey by August 30, 2015.
If you are willing and ready, please reply to this email (cwl@international.ucla.edu) by Monday, August 24, 2015so we can prepare login accounts for you. We will then email you links to the module and survey.
I know this is short notice and I do apologize for that. As a former workshop participant, I know you understand the critical need for this work. We are depending on your expertise and commitment to help us guide the development of the next five learning modules and would really appreciate your input. Please, let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
All my best,
Olga Kagan
