Dear AATK Members,

Greetings from beautiful Monterey!  I think everyone has started his/her travel plan at this moment and received AATK conference registration information a couple of days ago.  I am adding more details of local information although much of it is already posted in www.aatk.org

If you want to see more local information, please check http://aatk2015.org  (this one is linked to the conference button in aatk.org).

1. Travel

A. Flying to Monterey

Monterey Regional Airport (MRY) is located just 10 minutes away from downtown Monterey. You can fly to MRY via international and domestic connecting routes on Alaska Airlines, Allegiant, American Airlines, United Express and US Airways. You can fly direct from airports such as Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), Phoenix (PHX), San Diego (SAN) and Las Vegas (LAS).

B. Other Nearby Airports

Other large airports near Monterey include Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC), located 60 minutes from downtown Monterey by car; and San Francisco International Airport, located 2 hours from downtown Monterey.

C. Transportation from the main airports:

From Monterey Airport: take a taxi in front of the airport. It would cost around $20 to downtown Monterey. If there is no taxi in line, please call to Yellow Cab Monterey (831)333-1234.

From San Jose or San Francisco Airport: The Monterey Airbus may be the most affordable means of transportation to or from the SFO or SJC to the Monterey Peninsula. It offers scheduled airport shuttle service with 11 trips up and 11 trips back daily, departing every 90 minutes and beginning out of SFO at 6:45am ($50 each way) and SJC 7:30am ($40 each way). To view its schedule, pick-up locations and fares, and to book a seat, please go online at www.montereyairbus.com.

D. Public transportation in Monterey

Monterey City free WAVE Trolley is available between 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM.  For more information, please check the link below.

2.  Conference Venue

The 20th AATK conference in 2015 will be held in Middlebury Institute of International Studies (MIIS) in Downtown Monterey on Jun 25-27.  We will have the plenaries and the general meeting at Irvine Auditorium in McCone Hall and two additional concurrent sessions will be held in McGowan Hall, which is right next to the main conference hotel, Monterey Marriott.   K-12 teacher workshop will be held in Room Los Angeles at Monterey Marriott on Saturday, June 27.  Please see the attached Monterey Downtown Map for the locations of the different venues.

3.  Conference Hotel

A. Monterey Marriott (Click here for the hotel website)
350 Calle Principal

Monterey, CA 93940

This is the only official AATK conference hotel.  Please submit your reservation for this hotel through AATK registration site.

B. Other Hotels: If you are looking for other nearby hotels for your family, the following are the good options for you.  You might get a good rate if you make an early reservation and/or mention MIIS event although they are not the official conference hotel.  Please remember that June is a very high season for tourism in Monterey, so please make your reservations early to guarantee a room.
