2025 AATK Graduate Student Travel Awards

We are pleased to announce the 2025 AATK Graduate Student Travel Awards, designed to support graduate student members attending the AATK annual conference and workshop. The awards particularly encourage first-time presenters and graduate students at all levels. This year, five awards (each up to $700) will be granted. From this year onward, one of these awards is funded by the Professor Ok-Sook Park Memorial Scholarship for Korean Language Education, honoring the legacy and contributions of the late Professor Ok-Sook Park at Michigan State University. Each award will cover travel expenses related to the AATK meeting, including the conference registration fee, on a reimbursement basis.

Eligibility

1. Applicants must be Associate (full time student) Members of the AATK at the time of application and enrolled in an accredited Master’s or Doctorate degree program.
2. Priority will be given to first-time presenters at the conference.
3. Previous award recipients are not eligible to apply.
4. If recipients are unable to attend the conference, they will not receive the award.

Applications will be reviewed by a special review board selected by the AATK. Review board members will have no professional or personal ties to the applicants. The result will be notified no later than May 5, 2025.

Review Criteria

1. Contribution to the meeting: Is the applicant presenting at the AATK meeting?

2. Usefulness of the meeting for the applicant’s academic and professional development:

(1) Will the applicant be able to obtain useful knowledge and experience that he or she can utilize in his or her academic work and/or teaching by participating in the meeting?

(2) Will the applicant be able to share the knowledge and experience obtained at the meeting with his or her colleagues?

(3) Will the meeting help the applicant to grow academically and professionally in the long term?

3. Commitment to the field:

(1) Will the applicant work in the field of teaching Korean after completing his or her study?

(2) Does the applicant demonstrate his or her goal and motivation to further his or her career in the field of teaching Korean?
