Department of Modern Languages and Literature
POSITION:
STARTING DATE: Fall, 2015
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Korean, Chinese, Linguistics, or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education by the beginning of the appointment. Candidates should have native or near-native fluency in Korean or Chinese. Ability to teach a second language through the intermediate level is a plus. Candidates should provide record of or potential for scholarly activity (involving students whenever possible) and peer-reviewed publications, as well as the demonstrated potential for effective teaching using a variety of methodologies. Competency in English required. Candidates should also demonstrate an ability or interest in teaching in a multicultural, multiethnic campus.
As a University dedicated to engagement, service and the public good, the successful candidate will be expected to join faculty, staff, students and administrators in a commitment to these purposes.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should have teaching and scholarly interests that complement the current faculty. Areas of expertise may include Korean literature, Korean film, Korean culture, comparative Asian literature, applied Chinese linguistics, Chinese language, second language pedagogy, online learning, cross-cultural communication, or community-based learning. Successful grant awards are a plus.
DUTIES: In addition to teaching, duties include student advisement, engagement in scholarship, and academic service for the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, the College of Arts and Letters, and the University.
SALARY: Initial salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
